City Of Punta Gorda - Government

Celebrating Leadership in Punta Gorda.

The Florida League of Cities is proud to honor Punta Gorda Councilmember Greg Julian with the 2026 Home Rule Hero Award for his outstanding advocacy during the 2026 Legislative Session.

Councilmember Julian worked tirelessly to ensure local voices were heard, sharing insights and real-world examples that helped state lawmakers understand the importance of local decision-making. His dedication shows what it means to be a true advocate for Florida’s cities.

A 30-year U.S. Army veteran and father of six, Councilmember Julian has served around the world and now brings that leadership to Punta Gorda’s City Council.

“Local voices matter, and I am deeply honored to be recognized as a Home Rule Hero,” Julian said.

PUNTA GORDA - Greg Julian has been asked why Punta Gorda would create a trip hazard for pickleball players.

"I've never seen anything like it before," Julian said. "The city installed two benches on the actual pickleball court. It seems like they don't want any more players - so this was a way to prevent it from happening."
